Final Definition of Educational Technology

I feel my definition about educational technology has stayed the same but at the same time has become more refined. Technology will play a major role in my class, technology helps the teacher teach in a more effective way ensuring a better learning experience. I can’t pin point a single thing that I feel is more important than any other. This whole class has been a great experience, I have literally learned more about technology in this class than any other time in my life. What I can take away from this course is an arsenal of knowledge I can use in my future class. Thank you Jenny!!

The two most important pieces of technology for me would be the computer and the projection screen display. The computer is a great tool to help in the overall learning process. The projection display allows students to see what you the teacher are seeing a great tool for the classroom.

WebQuest Are Wonderful

I really enjoyed learning about wq. Wq’s are another tool that a teacher can use to give a student a more rounded learning experience over any topic. I think you could do both, modify a existing wq or make your own. However making your own would be a very tedious task requiring much of your time. And then there is the option to modify a wq which would save you time and ultimately get your message across faster. Either way any wq that your working on or with will be a great learning tool for students.

Wow where do I start, what I can remember about the Internet 10 yrs ago is that it was a very isolated place. Everything was could I say concrete nothing really changed. Just place to gather information which was great then Web 2.0 came into play. Web 2.0 is revolutionizing the Internet making “us” potentially in control of what goes up. And that’s a great feeling knowing little ole me could get involved in creating something that could be essentially world changing, all I need is a computer and a imagination now that’s amazing.

Well when I was in middle/high school computers were just coming into the classroom and for me I thought that was great. I had no interactions with a PC until we got one for the house in 97. The PC for me opened up a lot of little things, like typing. The only other piece of equipment we had were the overhead projector and a TV with a VCR player. However with the advancements in technology today the classroom is mind boggling. Current classrooms have video projectors, laptops (for the students), and of course PCs. I believe that with the advancements of technology in the coming years students will be opened up to many more learning styles, allowing teachers to fully maximize their students learing potential. There is really no telling what the classroom will look like in 10 years, but I do know technolgy will play a major role in the learning process and for that I can say I’m excited.

Wow after doing week 10′s assignment I feel that having a classroom wp would be awesome. Not only can you allow the parents to become more involved (better than just email). You can also keep the kids more involved by giving them a sense of entitlement. I believe the most important aspect of the wp should be current information posted from day to day about the normal progress of the classroom so everyone can see just how much fun your having. Having a classroom wp never crossed my mind at all and to be honest it wowed me and I know that I will have a wp when I get my own classroom.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is similar to regular bookmarking in the way that your favorite websites are being saved to a computer. However social bookmarking allows your favorite websites to travel with you even if you don’t have your computer. Using a social bookmarking website you simply create a account and start bookmarking. Using any computer you can then access your sites anytime you want. The social aspect of the bookmarking allows other’s to access your sites. It opens up the internet really allowing you to find sites you probably would have never found. Teachers can and should use social bookmarking to find and share sites that pertain the their content area. I believe that social bookmarking is a great tool to have as a teacher, it helps supplement information that you get from just using the text.

Excel in a different light.

Excel is a wonderful tool that teachers can use as a part of their arsenal. Excel has many more uses than just the boring old spreadsheet. In the classroom teachers can have their students use Excel to create timeliness, pictographs, as well as game boards. With all these different applications comes along countless activities that the teacher can use. For instance I mentioned game boards, game boards could be used in a specific content area to offer another outlet for students to learn a topic thats being covered. Or the teacher could use this as a project and have the students come up with and design their on game and present it to the class. I believe that Excel should break away from the office setting and step into the classroom because it offers more than just spreadsheets to both teachers and students alike.

Podcast and Voicethreads

I do believe that podcast would be beneficial in a classroom setting especially in a online class. Podcast are great, they allow one to cast their voice to literally millions of people. The podcast could be a great supplement to a teachers lesson plan allowing students to access more information on a specific topic designated by the teacher. I believe that information coming from a credited source other than a text book or lecture is a good change of pace for the student allowing them to come to the realization that learning can be achieved even outside the classroom. I myself love podcast, I love the fact that I can get a variety of opinions and facts on practically any subject I want to research. I do believe podcast should be another tool used in the classroom to provide more learning opportunities.

The differences between nonlinear and linear PowerPoint are easily defined. Linear PowerPoint flows in a straight sequence as nonlinear PowerPoint can jump around from slide to slide. E portfolio’s are, can I say the wave of the future. Our society is going paperless and having a E portfolio is important for many reasons. Some of the benefits of dealing in the electronic world is that the Internet is everywhere and can be accessed with great ease. So, there is no need to lug around books and paper when you can just get it on the net. From the aspect of the educator there are many benefits as well. Keeping track of students over the course of a semester as well as making the learning experience larger with the expansion of text and material found on line. As you can see E portfolio’s have gained in popularity with the student and teacher and I believe its popularity will only rise in the future to come.
